Where did you begin? Where are you now? Where do you want to go?

I wonder what percentage of soft home furnishings fabricators began in the clothing industry, and what percentage of fabricators of clothing began in the soft home furnishings industry?  If you are in either industry, what are your thoughts about switching to the other?

I began in clothing and now do custom window treatments and soft home furnishings.

A custom dress or suit is made for a body that changes shape and size. A window does not change.

Clients are much more willing to pay for home furnishings they will enjoy every day for years to come more than a dress made for a special occasion.

My degree is in Clothing and Textiles. The dressmaker details are the qualities that make home furnishings truly custom.

What is your background Dean?

Thank you for the post Marie. I have always sewn (not professionally), and I started in home furnishings over 10 years ago (full time 9 years ago). Lately, I find myself interested in, or drawn more towards, clothing construction. Just seems backwards from most other people's experiences.
